14th December 2017
Dear Parents,
We would like to welcome you and your child to Team 4 2018. We look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout the year.
This note contains a few requests that we hope are not too onerous.
Reading
It is vital for your child to continue to read over the holidays to avoid slippage. For some this will be independent reading but for others it will require support and encouragement. Please try to have some suitable books available and make time for reading together. Auckland Libraries have a summer programme that they are running throughout the holidays to encourage reading called Dare to Explore. See The Link (under newsletters on the school website) for further information or call in at East Coast Bays library.
Maths
Your child’s Mathletics account will remain active over the holidays and it is strongly recommended that they continue to reinforce tables and basic facts during this time.
Stationery
Stationery packs are available from the office. These contain the books needed for next year. Please ensure these are bought by the end of the first week so the children can all start together in Week 2. Can you please make sure that on the first day your child brings something to write with, (pencil or pen) and something to write on (refill or an old unused exercise book.)
Swimming
Team 4 will be having swimming lessons in Weeks 2 and 3 run by Skillz4life. With the appalling drowning statistics as they are in New Zealand, we hope every child in our team will participate. Payments are made direct to Skills4life (www.skillz4life.co.nz). The cost is $50 per child for 8 x 30min lessons.
Term 1 Trips
As part of our Education Outside the Classroom programme, we are booked to visit the MERC centre at Long Bay on the 4th of April for a fantastic day of challenges. The cost of this will be approximately $62. A letter will come home next term giving the exact cost and details of the day.
As a way to develop the key competency ‘Participating and Contributing’, perhaps your son/daughter could do some jobs around home to earn money that could be put towards it.
We also plan to walk to Waiake Beach on March 23rd to investigate our local environment.
We look forward to meeting you next year. Our Meet the Teacher evening is planned for Thursday 8th of February.
We hope you have a happy and safe summer holiday.
