Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

Shore to Shore Fun Run 31 March 2019

The Harcourts Cooper & Co Shore to Shore is a 5.9km fun run and walk from Takapuna Grammar to Milford Reserve in Auckland on Sunday 31 March 2019. You can purchase bus tickets to get you back from the finish line to your car or vice versa – see the website for details. This event is North Harbour’s largest fun run/walk and helps the community to support their local schools, as a portion of each entry fee gets donated back to the schools in the form of Sports Distributor vouchers. You are encouraged to have fun and dress up for the run/walk. There will be spot prizes, competitions and entertainment at the finish line – so bring the whole family! You can register at http://shoretoshore.co.nz/ and click on Glamorgan School.

Travelwise Walk to School Month

As part of the Travelwise Walk to School Month the whole school will take part in a 1km walk around the local area just by our school on Monday 25th March between 9:15 and 10:15am.

Police Vetting for sports team coaches and managers

Since the Vulnerable Children’s Act came out in 2015 we continually update our procedures and policies around keeping children and young people safe. It is recommended that all sports coaches and managers are police vetted as they have a position of authority over children and are often alone with them. If you are, or will be volunteering to be, a sports coach or manager and you have not already completed a police vet through Glamorgan School in the last 3 years, can you please pop into the office with two forms of identification, one of which must be photo ID (e.g. a drivers licence and passport would be fine). The school will cover the cost of the police vet and the office staff will complete the paperwork required. A police vet lasts for 3 years.

Staff car parks and out of bounds area

The area behind Rooms 11 and 12 and Te Whare Toi (the Arts building) is strictly out of bounds to children and is for school staff use only. Children are not allowed to use the gate near room 11 at all at any time and must enter and exit the school down the main playground. Please do not use this gate or the staff car park as a way in and out of school. The car park is a staff car park and we do not want a repeat of having a child almost knocked over walking through this area behind and between the cars. Some parents and caregivers are taking their children through both staff car parks which is showing the children you think this is a safe entry and exit to school. It really isn’t and you should always walk in and out of school using the footpaths. This way if you are ever not with your child they will not walk through the parked cars.

Scootering and cycling to school

Please do not allow children under year 4 to scooter or bike to school alone. We have had several close calls on Glamorgan Drive with young children scootering or cycling home by themselves. They do not have the  maturity or awareness to make safe decisions near the road especially regarding the speed of cars and are easily distracted from watching the road and pavement by friends etc.

Note: No children under year 4 are allowed to leave their scooter or bike at school. Parents of  Year 4, 5, 6 children who do keep their bike or scooter at school should have signed a permission form available from Mrs Watson’s window.

Whole School Assembly Friday 15th March at 2pm

Matariki (Team 1) will be leading our whole school assembly on Friday 15th March at 2:00pm in the school hall. You are all welcome to come along. Please note: if you park in the drop off zone for assembly then please move your car by 3:00pm the end of the school day. The drop off zone is then a no parking area.

Advance notice –  Parent/Child/Teacher discussions Wednesday 3rd April. School closes at 1pm.

As mentioned in Week 2 newsletter, Parent/Child/Teacher discussions will be held on Wednesday 3rd April from 1:10pm. Please note that school will close early at 1:00pm that day. There is no facility to look after children when the school is closed so please make alternative arrangements for that afternoon. If your child goes to Glamorgan Kids Club then they can go at 1:00 as it will open earlier that day.

Updating School Records

A form was sent home last week to all children from the office to update your family details so we have the correct phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contacts for your child. Please complete this form and send it back to school as soon as possible. If all details are still the same please write ‘no changes’ on the form and send it back anyway. Many thanks.
