Reporting to Parents
All children will receive two written reports each year. Parents are welcome to contact their class teacher at any time during the school year should they have any concerns about their child. The best way to do this is to make an appointment to see the teacher either by e mail or through the school office.
Sharing the Learning
Families will be invited to 'Sharing the Learning' afternoons in term 1 and 3. This part of our assessment and reporting cycle reflects the New Zealand Curriculum which states that children are a part of effective assessment by, "being clear about what they can do and what they still need to learn" and "involving them as they discuss and reflect on their goals, strategies and progress with their teachers, their parents and one another."
The First 3 Years
In the first 3 years of schooling children are assessed against National Standards in reading, writing and mathematics on the anniversary of their start date at school. The children receive a written interim report (progress towards the next Standard) and a full report at the end of 1, 2 and 3 years at school (end of the term closest to their anniversary).
Years 4, 5 and 6
When children reach Years 4, 5 and 6 the National Standards are end of school year standards and so children are assessed at the end of the school year no matter when they started school. These children will receive reports at the end of term 2 (interim report) and 4 (full report). There are a few children who will complete 3 years at school in year 4. These children will receive a postcard summary of their achievement against the Standards after 3 years of schooling and then move to the interim report one term later for the Year 4 standards along with the rest of their year group.
Interim Reports
An interim report will report on progress towards the next Standard in reading, writing and maths and will indicate whether the teacher thinks your child is on track to meet these by the end of the year.
Full Reports
A full report includes whether your child has met the Standards in reading, writing and maths and
also reports on the other areas of the curriculum. Both interim and full reports include effort.
Parent/Teacher discussions
These will be offered for those parents who feel they need to see the teacher after each set of reports has gone home to children in their first 3 years at school and at the end of term 2 for years 4, 5 and 6.
