Teaching and Learning

At Glamorgan School our vision is for all to thrive in a learning environment that promotes and celebrates achievement, pride, choices, respect, relationships and responsibility. Our teaching and learning programmes reflect these values through the Steps to Success and support the school's mission to be 'a learning community that is committed to providing relevant, meaningful and challenging learning opportunities, whilst celebrating diversity, individuality and citizenship.'

The New Zealand Curriculum sets the direction for teaching and learning. Our school curriculum includes the principles, values and key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum and we strive to make meaningful connections between the children's learning and the world around them. For more information about the Curriculum click on the link 'New Zealand Curriculum' on this website or go to http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz

We welcome parents to work with us and share their child's learning journey. A sense of community is important to us and we aim to establish effective partnerships between home and school. A community that supports their children leads to positive self esteem which is key to successful learning. As children experience success, they are encouraged to take risks and develop perseverance and resilience.

Teaching and learning is about providing opportunities and experiences that will enable children to become confident, connected, actively involved learners ready to take on the challenges of further learning. We want the children at Glamorgan School to learn how to learn and be able to talk about and take responsibility for their own learning.

We regard everyone at our school as a learner including our staff. Through high quality professional development staff work together to challenge their thinking and to improve their practice leading to child centred programmes that meet children's individual needs.
