Glamorgan School’s Travel Plan

The official launch of Glamorgan School’s travel plan was held at a special assembly on March 4th, 2005 with Mayor George Wood in attendance.
The “Travelwise to School” Travel plan was developed by ARTA (Auckland Regional Transport Authority) in partnership with North Shore City Council and involved extensive consultation with the school and community.
The purpose of a school travel plan is to address traffic congestion at the school gate, address road safety issues and educate students about alternative modes of transport ie walking independently or walking with the “walking school bus”.

Walking to Glamorgan School
Glamorgan School has four walking school bus routes. A walking school bus is a group of children who walk  to and from school and are accompanied by parent volunteers. Children are 'picked up' and 'dropped off' at specific stops on the designated route by parent volunteers who act as 'bus drivers'.
80% of students live within a two kilometer radius of the school and they are encouraged to walk to and from school.
The benefits are increased health and wellbeing and a reduced traffic at the school gate.

Walking to School Independently
Info for Pedestrians - For those children who walk but not on a walking school bus.
As part of the implementation stage presently underway , recommended walking routes (showing walkways etc.) are being mapped by the school. In the meantime, check out the best route to school using:

Cycling to Glamorgan School
Year 5 and 6 children are allowed to cycle to school. Parents need to write a letter to the school stating that they wish their child to cycle and that they are happy with their child's ability to ride, their knowledge of road rules and that bicycle equipment is up to appropriate safety standards.

Parking
Parents are encouraged to park further away from school (not outside the school gate) and then walk the rest of the way.

Points to note re: Drop Off

This is a non parking zone between 8.15-9.15 am and 2.30-3.30pm on school days. During the morning please be considerate of fellow drivers by driving down as far as possible before dropping your child/ren off. In the afternoons please help minimise congestion by driving slowly down the drop off zone, and pick your child up as close as possible to the shelter. If your child is not waiting by the shelter, please continue through the zone out onto Glamorgan Drive and follow the flow of traffic around the roundabout and back into the drop off zone until you see your child. If unsure there is always personnel to assist you.

Glamorgan School - Park & Walk
Did you know there are some great park & walk or drop off zones around our school? Help keep the school gate clear of cars so it is safer for everyone.

Educating students about road safety and alternative transport modes
