Term 2 – Monday 2nd May to Friday 8th July 2016

School will be closed on Monday 6th June for Queen’s Birthday

Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

Basic-Fact-A-Thon

This year’s a-thon is a basic-fact-a-thon and last Monday your child should have brought home their Basic Fact-A-Thon sheet and a sponsor sheet.

The testing day will be Monday 13 June and children will have until Friday 24 June to gather their sponsorship funds following the testing day. We do not encourage children to go ‘door knocking’ and prefer that you monitor the soliciting of sponsors. Donations are welcomed should you not approve of gaining sponsorship.  We appreciate your assistance in this regard. Please complete the sponsor sheet and send this to school on the test day.

There is a ‘pizza for lunch’ prize for each team across the school to be won.  The winning class in each team will have the highest percentage of children return their sponsor sheet with money. Pizza will be on Tuesday 28th June for the winning classes.

Thank you for supporting the Basic-Fact-A-Thon, raising money for the school and increasing your child/ren’s basic fact knowledge at the same time!

Shore to Shore

Many thanks to all those who took part this year in the Shore to Shore fun run/walk in March. Last week we received a voucher for $856 which will be spent on sports equipment for the school.

Defibrillator

The school has purchased a defibrillator which will be kept in the school hall on the wall beside the kitchen door. Many thanks to Russell Thomas and Barfoot and Thompson for their help and donation of $500 towards the cost of the defibrillator.

Board of Trustees Elections

A reminder that all voting closes at midday tomorrow 3rd June and all votes should be in to school or posted no later than this date to be counted. The results will be known on Friday 10th June and the new Board will take effect immediately. We will send out a special email to families with the results on Friday 10th June.

Jammies in June

Every year children leave hospital in the winter to go home and have no pyjamas to wear. The Middlemore Foundation started Jammies in June a few years ago to help these children from ages 0-16. If you would like to donate a pair of PJs (any size but don’t forget the teenagers too!) there is a box in the office to pop them in. We will also have a school wide Jammies in June Day on  Wednesday 22nd June when the children can come to school in their pyjamas for the day.

Whole School Assembly

Team 4 are leading our whole school assembly on Friday 10th June at 1:30pm in the hall. Everyone is welcome to come along.

 FOTS News

Book the babysitters now for some “me” time that’ll benefit the whole family – please join us on 28 June 7 for 7.30pm to hear the authors explain “What the Fat?”, a sensible “new” way of eating that turns the food pyramid on its head, to help food better serve our health. Tickets are $15 from the office, Paperplus Browns Bay, or eventfinda. Light refreshments will be served, using some of the authors’ recipes. Bring cash for great raffle prizes. Both the first book “What the Fat” and second one “Sports Performance – What the Fat” will be on sale on the night, with our school earning a % of sales. Email /call Judi Jones on judi@jsa.net.nz or 0211294831 to find out more or to get in touch about assisting with our prizes on the night / any contacts you may have in the gym, health and health food sectors that could support us. We look forward to seeing you there. Thanks, Judi Jones obo Glamorgan FOTS.
