Team 1 Newsletter Term 3 2016
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to you all and a special welcome to our new families and children turning 5.
To contact us:
Room 1 Mrs Kirsty Hewitt firstname.lastname@example.org
Room 2 Mrs Brooke Mabbott email@example.com
Room 23 Mrs Helen Barlow firstname.lastname@example.org
We find email contact with parents an effective way to keep in touch, especially those who are not able to visit the school regularly. We encourage you to email us. Please email us a short message so we can create a class list to help us with contacting everyone.
School begins at 9am. It is important for your child to be ready for learning at this time. Please help them to arrive at school with time to manage their belongings and settle. We find it difficult to settle our classes when parents are saying goodbye or children are arriving as the bell goes. Your help with this would be appreciated. If your child arrives after the school bell, it is important they report to “Mrs Watson’s window”.
Reporting to Parents:
This term you will be invited to Sharing the Learning Afternoon/ Evening. This is an opportunity for your child to take you through their class, talking about their goals and next steps and to show you their work. Although teachers will be in the classes, it is not the time for specific discussions about your child. If you wish to discuss specific learning, please email your child’s teacher to arrange a suitable time.
Each night your child will bring home their home learning book. Spend time going through the routine of saying and writing letter sounds, letter names, words and numbers. In their book bag will also be a reader or other small book. Listen to them read, or read with them or to them. It could be a familiar book they are learning to read fluently through repeated reading.
Each class is timetabled to visit the school library on a Wednesday. Your child will borrow books to be shared and enjoyed for reading that day and for the week. Please return your child’s library books to school in their book bag by the following library visit. Library books will not be issued if your child does not have their book bag with them.
Year 1 is a NUT FREE ZONE due to having children with severe and life threatening allergies. This includes nut based spreads and other nut products. We encourage healthy options for morning tea and lunches. Please do not send lollies or chocolates etc. to school. Yoghurt pots are very messy and difficult for children to manage. We are a rubbish free school which means that all rubbish from lunches will be taken home in lunchboxes. Please send a water bottle to school each day for your child.
Overview of Topics of Study For This Term:
Our school wide theme focuses on Cultural Connections. We will be using this to look at our own cultures and making comparisons with others in our class (values, things that make our family special, family histories, dance, celebrations etc). We will also continue our focus on the Key Competencies of the curriculum through “filling a bucket”.
Dates for your diary:
Please read the notes which come home in the home learning book as reminders are often put in here.
