Lots of news this week!
Thank you for your contribution towards the Cancer Society Daffodil Day last Friday. We raised $663.60 altogether which was a great effort! Thank you also to Room 8 and Lynne Cutfield for their organisation.
Football news – Congratulations to Team Critchley who finished in 2nd place at the end of season football tournament for the 8th Grade held at East Coast Bays Football Club. The team consisted of: Ollie Breed, Jimi Southgate, Kian Gouws, Nathan Hutton, Enzo Dellow, Finn Donald, Tyler Sievers, and Ben Sullivan. ‘Most Improved Player’ team awards went to Nathan Hutton and Finn Donald, and one of the ‘Player of the Year’ team awards went to Ben Sullivan.
Sharing the Learning afternoon TODAY
Thursday 1st September 3-6pm
Families are invited to come and have a look at your child’s classroom and let your child tell you about their learning. This is usually a very popular evening when we have grandparents, aunties, uncles and any extended whanau that would like to come along – different family members are welcome to come at different times if that suits your family, the more the merrier! Although the teacher is in the classroom it is very much led by the children themselves as they take more responsibility for their learning and set their next learning goals along with their teacher.
Annual Scholastic Book Fair
Make a time to visit the Scholastic Book Fair – Started Monday 29th August and finishes Friday 2nd September in Room 11. The Book Fair will be open 8:30-9:30am and 2:30-3:30pm every day with late night opening today Thursday 1st September when it will be open until 6pm. If you are going to Sharing the Learning make sure you call in to the Book Fair as well! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help! Looking forward to seeing you there. Payment can be made by cash or eftpos.
Class art work that will be transformed into beautiful calendars is available to view in the office and in your child’s classroom during Sharing the Learning afternoon. Order forms for calendars went home with your child last week. There are more order forms in the office if you need one. Please have all orders in to the office by 16th September.
Whole school Assembly
Team 5 will be leading our whole school assembly tomorrow, Friday 2nd September at 1.30pm in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to come along.
The Variety Show is coming! 20th, 21st and 22nd September
Book these dates into your family calendar now! The whole school will present a variety show with items from every team. A flyer is coming home today (see also at the bottom of this newsletter) but you can click here to download it as well – Variety show flier 2016.
There will be one matinee performance at 1pm on Tuesday 20th September, a matinee at 1pm and an evening performance at 6:30pm on Wednesday 21st September and an evening performance at 6:30pm on Thursday 22nd September. All the children are expected to take part and be available for all of the performances.
We are aware that the most popular shows are usually in the evening but with over 550 children not everyone will be able to come along to these shows and we urge families to plan ahead and come to the matinees as well. As our children are young we feel three evening shows is too much and the extra matinee performance we have included this time provides the opportunity for more of you to see the show.
Details of where to drop off and pick up your children for the evening performances will come home next week. Please check your child’s bag for hard copies of these notices on a Thursday.
Tickets will go on sale from today, $10 per adult and $5 per child up to age 12 for the evening performances – matinees are FREE but please still collect a ticket from the office so we can monitor numbers.
Please buy tickets for just one evening performance to give as many families as possible the chance to see the show.
Seasons for Growth Programme – supporting children who are coping with loss and change in their lives
“Seasons North Shore” is a social service that runs peer support groups for people who are endeavouring to cope with a major change in their daily life due to things such as death, separation/divorce, moving to a new country or area, imprisonment of a family member, etc. Groups meet for a one-hour session, once a week over 8 weeks, either during the school day or after school. Groups are usually 3-5 people of similar age, with one or two trained adult Companions as facilitators. The programme explores the impact of change and loss on everyday life and teaches ways to respond appropriately to these changes. Glamorgan School has offered to host courses and we have a few families interested but need a couple more to make a group. From the Board of Trustees
Every three years the Board surveys the community to get feedback on a range of different aspects of the school. The survey will help us better understand the parent/school relationship. The Board of Trustees and school management team will use the information you give to assist in developing the School Charter and Strategic Plan for Glamorgan School, as well as planning activities such as year 6 camp, outdoor education and swimming lessons. We need to know that you support these kinds of activities in order for them to continue.
The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, there is a progress bar at the bottom of every page. Please note that the actual length of your survey will depend on your individual responses. The survey will be open from today until Friday 16th September and is available by clicking on the link below or the link under quick links on our school website:
DISCO!!!! It’s disco time again and the Year 6’s have chose a Sports Theme for our last disco of the year which is on Friday 9th September in the school hall. Get dressed up in your Sports dressup and come along for a fun evening! Flyers are going home with children this week so watch out for the brightly coloured flyer (copy attached). Junior Disco (Years 1 to 3) is 6 pm to 7 pm and the Senior Disco (Years 4 to 6) is 7.30 pm to 8.45 pm. Remember to bring cash. $5 cash entry per child. Coupon cards will be on sale again which you purchase and use your coupon cards like cash for buying items like food, drink, toys, lollies and photos – saves having cash at every table. If any parents, caregivers or family are able to help out on the night please email Helen on email@example.com. We need lots of helpers to sell coupon cards, lollies, toys, photo booth, pizzas, drinks and much more. If you are able to help, please let Helen know if it is for the Junior or the Senior Disco or both as well as setup after school on Friday afternoon. Looking forward to a fun disco night.
FOTS MEETING: Come along to our FOTS meeting next week in the staffroom (above the school office) at7.30 pm on Tuesday 6th September and join our fun team. It’s a great way to get to know people and take part in fundraising events during the year for Glamorgan School. We would love to see some new faces and have you join our team.
