Term 2 – Monday 1 May to Friday 7 July

Queen’s Birthday public holiday Monday 6th June

Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

Welcome to all the new families and children that are joining Glamorgan School this term. Our overarching theme this term is Tangata Whenua and welcome to schoolteams will be interpreting this in a variety of ways to suit the children’s level, abilities and interests through literacy, numeracy, science, technology and the arts.

Our Kiwisport focus for this term is Tennis and Hot Shots Tennis will be in school delivering one lesson per class every week for the first five weeks of term. A flyer was sent home today with oldest and only children in each family with details of future events your child could participate in if they enjoy the tennis lessons. The first event is this Sunday 7th May at Victor Eaves Park, Orewa and entries close at 1pm on Saturday 6th May. Any queries should be directed to or sign up at

This programme is in addition to the class PE programme which will have a focus on cross country running this term.

Autism Awareness Week

Thank you to everyone who brought along a gold coin to support Autism Awareness week. You have donated a total of $483.10 to the Autism Foundation and many of your children now understand a little of what life is like for an autistic child.

Absence from school

Families contacting the classroom teacher to say why a child is away please include Jenny Watson on your email at  – Just in case the teacher is sick also! When this happens the relief teacher does not have access to the class teacher’s computer and so Jenny will phone you unless you have also included her in your e mail.

Although you can still text, email, phone or send a note to school regarding an absence, the best way now is to use The Glamorgan Hub or the quick link ‘Report Absence’ on the school website which takes you to the Hub. There is a simple form to complete electronically which gives all information needed and goes straight to Jenny and the classroom teacher.

If we do not receive any communication from you regarding the absence of a child then an automated text will be sent out from our school management system saying to please contact the school.

It is important you contact the school regarding any absence and for every day of the absence unless arranged with the school- this is a security measure taken to make sure your child has not set off for school and then not arrived.

Pool closed

The school pool is now closed. If you have a key please return this to the office before 26th May in order to get back the key deposit of $20. Please note: money will not be given to children.

Making connections with others from around the world

Has your family moved to New Zealand from another country?

A large number of the children and parents at Glamorgan School come from many different places in the world. Some are recent arrivals and others have been members of our school community for some time.

Meeting and connecting with other similar parents helps to strengthen and support our school family. It also provides opportunities for you to make new friends and perhaps feel more comfortable and able to participate fully in school life.

It is important to our school that we support all of our community and provide opportunities for all parents to be welcome, involved and included.

We would like to invite you to an afternoon tea to offer you the opportunity to meet and connect with others who may also be very new to our school. Please note: The invitation is open to everyone, not just families from another country.

When:        Thursday May 18th at 3:15 pm

Where:       Glamorgan School staffroom

If you wish to attend please tear off the return slip at the bottom of this form sent home today return to school (or RSVP to by May 15th so we can plan for the meeting.

We look forward to meeting you at this time.
