newsletter headerTerm 3  –  9am Monday 24th July to 3pm Friday 29 September

Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

Welcome back to term 3 and a special warm welcome to all those families and children new to the school this term. Learning programmes this term have a global perspective  with a strong Social Sciences focus which could include history, famous people, heroes, explorers, scientists or musicians and their different countries, cultures and languages. This will link very well to the Book Festival in week 5 of the term that has a theme of ‘Reading Around the World’.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Quiz Night on August 12th – details below. This is a fun night out and a great fundraiser organised by the wonderful Friends of The School and proceeds will help fund new furniture and fittings for our refurbished library.

Book Week is coming – 21st to 25th August (week 5).

Check your child’s schoolbag for the Flyer (coming home today) with details about what is happening and how you can be involved! Also coming home is a letter about the musical show – What’s the Big Idea? The cost of this show is $5:00 per student. Click here to download a copy of the letter if you have not received it

Please note: APPA choir children will NOT be able to attend the show as they have a rehearsal on that date.

What’s happening?

– Daily DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) – at the signal everyone stops what they are doings and reads for 10mins.

Whole school assembly

Our first whole school assembly is on Friday 4th August  and will be led by  rooms 1 and 24 from Team 1 in the hall at 2.00pm. As Team 1 now have six full classes we have split them into two assemblies and Rooms 2, 3 and 4 will take assembly the following week on Friday 11th August. Everyone is welcome to come along.

ICAS English

The ICAS English exam for those year 5 and 6 students who have registered will be next Tuesday 1st August. Children will be told over the notices that morning where to go and when.

Spare Clothes

Although we close our school fields when it is really wet and muddy there are still outside areas where children are managing to get very dirty and require a change of clothes.

We do keep a small amount of clothing for emergency changes but would appreciate you putting a change of clothes in your child’s schoolbag to make sure they can put on clean clothes if required.

Change to lunch room menu

Please note that the Pop Spritzer drink is no longer available. There is a new sparkling water instead which comes in a 350ml can. If this is too big for your child you may consider the smaller twist drinks instead.

Signing in and out at school

A reminder to all parents and caregivers that if you collect your child early from school you MUST sign them out at the office. This is a health and safety procedure as is all visitors including parent helpers signing in at the office also.

IF YOU CAN PERSONALLY HELP WITH THE DONATION of anything big or small towards our Quiz Night to put towards auctions or raffles it would be much appreciated. Suggestions include chocolates, luxury food items, wine, pamper items, or any items suitable for raffle baskets; or if you have any baskets suitable to use for raffles, these would be great too.  There is a box at the school office where you can drop anything off. Thank you.

PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH ANY BUSINESSES ABOUT DONATIONS for our quiz night.  Although this is done with good intentions, we are getting heaps of double ups which is not ideal.  We are managing this side of things between two people and have vouchers and items being donated.

HOWEVER, IF YOU OWN A BUSINESS, or are involved with or work for a business that might like to make a donation towards our upcoming Quiz Night Fundraiser please contact me on the number below to discuss.  We are collecting vouchers and items that we can auction off on the night.  Please contact Lisa Radford (021 109 4997) if you can help with a voucher or item for this.  Thanks.

FOTS Meeting – our next FOTS meeting is Tuesday 1st August 2017 at 7.30 pm in the school staffroom.  Please feel free to come along and join the team.
