As the fourth term draws to a close and we look ahead to the Christmas break we would like to celebrate the end of another fantastic year for Glamorgan School. Some students have excelled in the classroom, some on the sports field, some in the arts – all shone in one way or another and the Board would like to thank the students and their families for another fantastic year.
Events Around the School
• Room 15 has been refurbished and work on the corridors will be underway. Thank you to Mitre 10 for the paint for these and for their help with the setting up of the vegetable boxes. Look out for the upgraded murals around rooms 13, 14 and 8. Thanks go to:
• The Gifted and Talented group who worked on the murals
• Mrs Valentin who lead the project and worked with the students
• Jasmin Ross (Room 16) who wrote the initial letter to Mitre 10 asking if they could help out with the mural project.
• and again to Mitre 10 Albany for the plywood panels – supplied, cut to perfect size and delivered all at no cost. Mitre 10 also gave us a very generous discount on the paint.
The Art Festival was a big success and it was lovely to see all of the ideas and talent on display from the children. The hall was buzzing with all of the colour. Don’t the kids love showing off their work!
Farewell to Year 6
We farewell the Year 6 students of 2018 who are leaving us to continue their school journey at their chosen intermediate school. We know that the staff of Glamorgan School have prepared you well for this transition and we wish you all the best. We encourage you to remember the Glamorgan Steps for Success and with these in mind you will be able to make the most of the opportunities available to you in your new school. We hope you look back fondly on your years at Glamorgan and come back to say hello.
Your donation is a wonderful koha you can make to the school in the knowledge that it is put to good use in the class room and outside for the enhancement of your child’s education at Glamorgan. Thank you to those families that have donated in 2018. We understand that the beginning of the year is often expensive but there are many options on when and how to make your donation as detailed in previous school newsletters. If you need to talk to someone regarding this please contact the office and they will advise or direct you to the appropriate person.
We really appreciate your support helping us to maintain our grounds and keeping them safe and clean for the kids to play on. Motorbikes, skate boards and dogs are not permitted on the school property.
We hope those of you that have purchased a Swimming Pool Key will make good use of them. Can we please remind families to use the pool (and surrounding facilities) in a responsible manner. Please do not lend other parties your key, in keeping with the Pool Users’ Contract and make sure your children use the toilet before they use the pool to avoid expensive closure due to faecal contamination. Expectations around food, rubbish (especially disposable nappies) and behaviour apply at all times.
Sections of the field are undergoing remediation work so if you see roped off areas please keep off these and remind others so that the grass has a chance to grow.
You may be aware that all state or state integrated schools will hold Board of Trustees elections in the first half of 2019. We have several members of the current board who are standing down due to their children leaving Glamorgan, so we would encourage you to consider being nominated for one of the five parent positions for the next three year term. Watch out for more information in Term 1 next year if this might be something that would interest you.
There is no way that we can have such a fantastic school without a lot of hard work from a variety of dedicated people.
Firstly we wish to thank our talented, passionate and hard-working teaching staff. We are a lucky Board to have you and we truly appreciate all your efforts. We would also like to make a special mention of our teacher aides and support staff. These people work with small groups and make a huge difference to the education of the children they come in contact with. We also have some wonderful administration and grounds staff who help keep our school running smoothly. Please take the opportunity to thank these people if you come across them.
At the same time as this we need to thank our Friends of the School members – these people work tirelessly to make our school a better place. They give up a lot of their own time to raise money for things that are not covered by government subsidies or funding. As a Board we want to thank them for the work they have done this year.
Last, but not least, are all the parents who help in some way or another. You might be a sports coach, put books away, help out FOTS when needed, support the fundraising, buy a pool key … you are all wonderful!
