Dear Whanau

We are all set to have a great term.  With a term already behind them, the students are familiar with expectations and routines and have made friends. This allows a greater focus on collaborative work and setting small independent and group goals.

The broad title for this term is Superheroes City.  We will be exploring ways for a community to live in harmony and make good choices for the environment. We will learn more about topics such as power, waste, water collection, transport and laws.   At Year 3 level this means expanding on their present understanding of the concepts, and taking a particular area of interest to a deeper level by a simple design project. No doubt they will come up with some futuristic ideas which may actually come to pass in time.  You will be seeing this unfold through Seesaw and hopefully their enthusiasm showing at home.

Thank you to those of you who came to parent/teacher discussions last term. We know these sessions are quite pressured for time, so we hope you also find the school website a valuable source of ideas for learning at home.  The support that children get at home, through conversations and experiences that enrich language and general knowledge, really impact positively on their school learning.  Of course it wouldn’t be a teachers’ newsletter without promoting doing a little bit of Mathletics and Reading Eggspress each day as well as sharing books together.

We have a new Te Reo Maori resource in the school which we will be trialling this term. We look forward to learning with the children, through simple songs and phrases.

There is a lot happening throughout the term. The website and school newsletter will keep you up to date.

Next week we start Kiwisport sessions in soccer. These run until June.

Week 3 is Bully Free New Zealand week.

Choices and Challenges offer the children four different activities and that is coming up in Week 3 and 4.

School Cross Country day is June the 7th.

Midterm reports come out at the end of the term.
