Term 3 2019

Monday 22nd July to Friday 27th September 2019

Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

Welcome back to term 3 and a special warm welcome to all those families and children new to the school this term. Learning programmes continue to develop the Key Competencies and this term have a global perspective which could include history, famous artists, musicians and their different countries, cultures and languages. This will link very well to the Variety Show in week 9 of the term – more details to come!

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Quiz Night on August 24th – details below. This is a fun night out and a great fundraiser organised by the wonderful Friends of The School!

Solar Panels

Although the weather was up and down during the school holidays the installation of solar panels on the roof of the administration building went ahead and was able to be successfully completed. Our thanks to Dan Brebner and his team from Harrisons who did a great job and once again a huge thank you to Brian and Karen Walker for their donation and for wanting our children to learn about sustainability, harvesting natural sources of power and how this can impact on their future. We will be able to see how much power we generate as a school and of course we are in a perfect position to use solar power as we use most power during daylight hours.

Health Survey
Every two years, we are required to consult with the community on aspects of the Health Curriculum. This year we are asking you for 10 minutes of your time to complete an online survey. Your responses and feedback are important and help us to plan our future Health and PE programmes.  The survey is now open and will close on Friday 16th August at 6pm and you can access it through the link below. If you need a hard copy of the survey please ask at the school office.

Spare Clothes

Although we close our school fields when it is really wet and muddy there are still outside areas where children manage to get very dirty and require a change of clothes. We do keep a small amount of clothing for emergency changes but would appreciate you putting a change of clothes in your child’s schoolbag to make sure they can put on clean clothes if required.

Drop off zone

A reminder and for those families new to our school that between 8:15 – 9:15am and 2:30 – 3:30pm there is no parking in the drop off zone. The zone is used to drop off and pick up children only and if you need to walk in with your child to the classroom please park elsewhere and walk into the school. At the end of the school day the gates will not be open until 3:05pm. This is to give the children time to get to the drop off and we do not then have such a big queue down Glamorgan Drive which blocks all the traffic. Please do not arrive earlier than 3:05pm or start a queue outside the school gate – the traffic wardens will ticket you for this when they are around.

Your child may need help getting in and out of the car, putting seat belts on etc. If this is the case then please do not use the drop off zone until your child can do this independently – if you need to get out of the car between the times above then the drop off zone is not the place for you just yet. Also the yellow lines opposite the drop off zone mean no parking  – we NEVER encourage children to cross between the cars in the drop off zone. This is not teaching them safe practices at all.

Many thanks to all our community this year who have been using the drop off zone correctly. We have never had such a quiet year with regards to complaints from the public about us blocking Glamorgan Drive – well done!
