Team 6 Rangatiratanga Term 3 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Term 3, a scary thought that we are already more than half way through the school year. Just a couple of things to bring to your notice. Term 3 is traditionally the time to enroll your child at an intermediate school. To this end, Year 6 students will be visiting Northcross on Wednesday 7 August, after which they will bring home an enrolment and information pack. Even if your child is not going to attend Northcross, we take them with us to give them a taste of what intermediate school life is about. If your child is intending to attend a different intermediate school, you will need to phone that school directly to find out about the school’s open day and enrolment information. Northcross Intermediate School Open Day/Night for parent information is Wednesday 21 August. Monday 26 August is the designated day for Glamorgan students to enroll. Your child is required to be at the enrolment interview.

This term will be a varied one in terms of the topics we have chosen. We will begin by looking at an integrated unit entitled Innovators in our World in which students research inventors and innovators and then construct an innovation / invention based on their chosen artist’s style.

The beginning of the term continues the development of Multiplication and Division and Fractions/Proportions/Ratios knowledge and strategies in maths. Students who have an excellent instant recall of these times tables find the learning and application of strategies easier. Later in the term, the emphasis will change to fractions, proportions and ratios. Nets, drawings, models, symmetry, rotation and tessellation will be covered in the strand area of maths.

Our school’s three yearly variety show is being held in week 9, specifically Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 for evening performances. As all students in the team are participating we are expecting all students to be able to attend these two evenings.

Skillz 4 Life Swimming Lessons Term 4

In week 7, a letter will come home offering your child the opportunity to have paid swimming lessons in school time at the end of Term 4. We have been able to secure the expertise of the qualified swimming instructors from Skillz4life, swim school. Students will have their swimming lessons every day over a period of two weeks. This swimming programme begins Weeks 8 & 9 starting on 2 to 13 December. Lessons will not take place on Tuesdays.

Their swimming lessons are aimed at all age groups and abilities and each lesson is tailored to the swimmer’s individual needs with a strong focus on water safety and fun. Structured lessons are based on ability levels after an initial assessment of students’ swimming ability.

The cost of the lessons is $50 per child for 8 x 30min lessons. Payments will need to be paid (No Later) than end of term 3 2019, last date for payment will be 27th September. The school office will not be collecting the payments instead, you will need to pay Skillz 4 Life directly. This information will come home later in the term so no action is required until then.
