Term 4 ends at 1pm on Tuesday 17th December
Please note: school is closed on Monday 28th October for Labour Day Public Holiday
Term 1 2020 begins at 9am on Monday 3rd February 2020
Kia ora koutou. Hello everyone.
Welcome back to term 4 and welcome to all new children and families that joined our school community this term.
Whole school assembly
Our first whole school assembly in term 4 is on Friday 25th October in the school hall at 2pm and Hapori (Team 3) will be leading. Everyone is welcome to come along.
Sunhats in Term 4
All children must wear a sunhat when playing outdoors in Term 4 and Term 1. Please make sure your child has a hat at school at all times this term. A named hat to keep at school would be a great option.
It is also a good idea to have sunscreen in your child’s bag – the roll on types don’t tend to leak and are easy for children to apply. The office always has a pump bottle of sunscreen children or adults can use in terms 1 and 4 at any time. Teachers talk to the children about sun and water safety but parents and caregivers should be explaining why sunblock, hats and sunglasses are a good idea in the summer and how these protect us from too much sun.
Leavers and new enrolments
Thank you to all the families that have let us know they are moving and their children will not be returning to Glamorgan next year. We wish you all the very best in your new homes and schools.
Please let us know if you are not returning next year or you have children as new enrolments in 2020. This allows us to plan the 2020 classes and keep numbers in them as evenly spaced as possible.
Applications for out of zone places for 2020 are now closed.
Term dates 2020
We have held off publishing these dates for 2020 as when teachers settled on a new collective agreement with the Ministry of Education an Accord was also negotiated which would give a further 8 days over the term of the collective when schools can close to provide release time for teachers. However, these days have not yet been set or confirmed by the union or Ministry. Therefore, please be aware there could be 2-3 more days in 2020 when the school will be closed for instruction. We will let you know the dates as soon as we have the information.

Auckland Transport invites all parents/caregivers to take part in Glamorgan School Baseline Survey. This survey is designed to collect information about how students are travelling to and from school, preferences for travel and identifying any barriers that might limit students from travelling in an active and sustainable way. All parent/caregivers need to do is click on the digital link: https://aucklandtransport.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9WAe2GVT6EJrGSh to complete the survey and it should take no more than 10 minutes to do.
The survey is open now and will close on Wednesday 23 October. This information will assist Glamorgan School to develop new road safety and travel initiatives to better cater for students in the future. As a thank you for taking part, Auckland Transport is providing 2 sets of double movie passes to two lucky parent/caregivers. To be eligible to go into the prize winning draw, you will need to put your full name and contact details on the survey.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 22 October at 7pm in the staff room. We’ll be focusing on disco preparations and final bits for 2019. Please join us! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
Calendar art – repeat order closes Monday 21st October 9am
The first order for Calendar Art is now closed and will be processed in October. If everything goes well, all products for order 1 will be received by 31 October.
We’ve created a 2nd order for parents that missed out, and it will close on Monday, 21 October 9am. If everything goes well, all products for order 2 will be received by 30 November. Please contact the school office or Letichia Drever (029 876 5709) if you can’t find your child’s unique code.
Thank you all for your support.
School disco – 1 November – Hawaiian Beach Party, 6-8pm
We’re changing things up a bit for the next disco – we’re going to trial the whole school together, with tickets available on pre-sale ONLY. The week of the disco, tickets can be purchased for $5 from the school office. There will be 300 tickets available (this limit is higher than the attendance at the last discos), so there should be plenty of availability. There will be NO DOOR SALES to avoid disappointment. Tickets are for students of Glamorgan School only.
Parents of Year 1 & Year 2 pupils, and pupils with extra needs, are most welcome to stay. We ask that all other parents enjoy the two-hour break (picnic on the school field?).
If you really want to be there, please contact us to volunteer! Please email email@example.com to get involved.
No student will be allowed to leave without being collected by a grown-up. We are mindful that for some, 2 hours might be too much, so please feel free to collect your child(ren) when you think they will have had enough!
Finally, a really big thank you to Karin Blaauw of Barfoot & Thompson for sponsoring the whole event!
The Big Paint
A big thank you to the team at Paint the Earth for running two days of painting fun during the school holidays, and to our families for supporting the event. Finished goods should be returned to the school by the end of the month and will be sent home with your children.
If you booked a painting slot and were unable to attend, please contact Paint the Earth to arrange to paint at the studio.
