End of Year Date and Time
School will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday 17th December for the end of our 2020 school year. This includes the office. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up from school as there will be no staff here in the afternoon. We will have a shortened lunchtime that day from 12:00 to 12:30.
PLEASE NOTE: there will be no school bus in the afternoon or at 1pm. If your child usually goes to Glamorgan Kids Club after school they should go at 1pm as the Kids Club will be open for them.
Our first day of school for 2020 is Monday 3rd February.
The office will open on Thursday 30th January and Friday 31st January from 9am to 12:00pm for payment of stationery and donations. Uniform orders will not be taken until 10th February.
Kia ora koutou. Hello everyone.
As we come to the end of another year and reflect on all the hard work, fun and enjoyment that make a school tick over, we also turn our thoughts to maintaining the levels your children have achieved and avoiding that ‘slippage’ over the longer summer break.
Today you will receive your child’s school report. In the section called ‘How you can help at home’ you are directed to the school website which has some great ideas – many more than can be detailed in a report. Go to the Parent Information tab and click on Home School Partnership and then the Literacy or Maths button. There are links and information for you to choose from here – remember to do little and often if possible. Just choose a couple of things at a time and if you can keep some reading, writing and basic Maths going in the holidays it really helps your child maintain the level at which they finished the year.
Congratulations Year 6
Congratulations to Year 6 children and their teachers on a fabulous Leavers Assembly last Thursday evening. It is always amazing to see the growth and maturity of these children as they prepare to leave us and move on to intermediate school. Thank you to all those families who will now be leaving the school community also at the end of the year – your support has been very much appreciated and we wish you and your families all the very best for the future.
Pool Key Sales
The school pool is now open and will close on Friday 3rd April. Pool keys can be purchased from the school office at a cost of $140 per key which includes a refundable $20 key bond and will give access to the pool after school, at weekends and during the school summer holidays. Last day for pool key sales before the summer holidays is Monday 16th December. Also a reminder to pool key holders that you have an agreement to use the pool – please honour this agreement and the pool use rules such as no parties in the pool area and no diving into the pool (it is far too shallow!).
Staff news – Farewells and welcome!
At the end of term 4 we say farewell to teachers Becky Taylor, Hannah Treweek and Sue Bellehewe, and teacher aides Shirley Morgan and Flynn Taylor- we wish them all well for the future and thank you to Angela Stoffberg and Justine Seed for stepping in to take long term relieving positions this year with our new entrant classes. We welcome Chloe Spencer-Powell, Sharon Topliss, Steffi Duffin and Nicola Le Lievre to the teaching staff next year and welcome back Lyn Peters and Justine Seed.
Swimming lessons in 2020
If your child is in Year 2 or 3 next year you will receive a letter with your child’s report (which should be in your child’s bag this afternoon) from the swim school detailing how to book lessons in term 1. Please read this carefully and if you want your child to have swimming lessons with Skillz4Life swim school, then follow the payment instructions using your child’s 2020 class room number which is on a sheet also in with their report. Please note the shortened timeframe to pay, this is to allow the swim school time to organise classes and employ the right amount of instructors. You must pay between 12th and 2oth December. Late payments will not be accepted. Do not pay the school as we do not handle this money or organise these lessons.
Children in Years 4 and 5 will have the opportunity for lessons in December 2020. Children in year 6 swim as a part of the Waterwise programme.
Please note that children who do not have lessons with Skillz4Life will still have the opportunity to swim in the school pool after the lessons have finished.
Meet the teacher evening 12th February 2020
One of the first whole school events next year is Meet the Teacher Evening on 12th February 2020. You should go to your child’s classroom.
Teams 2, 3 and 4 at 5:45pm
Teams 1, 5 and 6 at 6:30pm.
And finally thank you to all those who have helped the school over the past year. To the year 6 children and families whose association with Glamorgan School is coming to an end, we wish you all the best for the future. To the rest of our families, have a safe and happy holiday, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
