Term 1 ends at 3pm on Friday 16th April
(School will be closed on Monday 8th February for Waitangi Day and
1st,2nd,5th and 6th April for a Teacher Only Day and Easter)
Kia ora koutou. Hello everyone.
Welcome back everyone, we hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break. A special welcome to the families and children new to Glamorgan School this year.
New Zealand remains at Alert level 1 and everyone is doing the right thing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so we’re pleased to say it’s business as usual and all children can attend school.
With over 100,000 people coming back to New Zealand through managed isolation facilities, our very low number of community cases is a reflection of the quality of work by the managed isolation staff and health authorities. Overall, 1.5 million people have now been tested.
Unfortunately, we have to expect COVID cases to emerge but we can be reassured by the speed, breadth and depth of the health response. As noted by Minister Hipkins, New Zealand is top equal with Australia in the world as having the highest rates of testing per positive case. We know that the approaches being taken in the MIQ are at a very tight forensic level. According to the Lowy Institute, New Zealand has been ranked the best at responding to the COVID-19 outbreak out of nearly 100 countries.
We continue to have a large amount of control over how we can prevent the spread of COVID. For our school we will:
- display QR code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer App
- keep our visitor register, attendance register and timetables up to date
- be monitoring for illness and asking anyone who is unwell to remain at home, or to go home
- encourage people with relevant symptoms to seek medical advice through Healthline or their GP and get tested for COVID if recommended to do so
- reinforce the importance of good hand washing and drying
- reinforce good cough and sneeze etiquette (you can support this at home with your tamariki too and good hand washing and drying routines)
Please note: All visitors to school must scan a QR poster or physically sign in at the signing station in the school office. There are no longer other paper sign in stations around the school. Alternatively you can say goodbye to your tamariki at the school gates.
Meet the teacher evening next Wednesday 10th February
Our school year starts with lots of new learning opportunities and exciting activities ahead for Term 1. You will receive information about activities planned for the term and upcoming events. One of the first whole school events is Meet the teacher evening next Wednesday 10th February 2021. You should go to your child’s classroom.
Teams 1, 5 and 6 at 5:45pm
Teams 2, 3 and 4 at 6:30pm.
Please be at your child’s classroom by the starting times – this is different to Sharing the Learning where you are welcome to turn up any time. Last year we had a really good turn out and we look forward to seeing you all again this year. If there is a clash with sessions and you cannot make it to one of your child’s teachers please contact the teacher and let them know. Some have a prepared information sheet they can give you or you can make an appointment to see them at another time.
Just a reminder that if you are coming as a family, the children should not run in and out of the classrooms whilst the teachers are talking to you. This is distracting for both parents and teachers.
Your child’s teacher will send home a form asking if there is any more information you want the teacher to know about your child. Meet the teacher evening will not give the opportunity for one to one discussions and filling out the form would give the teacher any information you feel they need to be able to work successfully with your child. If you need to talk to the teacher further please make a time to see them either through the office or by emailing them directly.
We look forward to meeting you all!

We greatly appreciate all donations made to the school. The school donation for the 2020 school year is as follows:

Please ensure you complete the reference section with your child’s name and specify “school donation”. You are able to claim a tax refund on school donations paid by requesting and completing an IR526 form from the Inland Revenue.
Due to the harsh effects of our summer sun and in accordance with our behaviour plan, children MUST wear a hat when outdoors during Term 1 and Term 4. This is not optional. Please make sure your child has a hat at school at all times this term. A named hat to keep at school would be a great option. To give full protection the hat should provide cover for the face, neck and ears.
There are many child friendly options available for sun screen such as roll on and spray applicators. Children are welcome to have their own sun screen in their bag and apply this before morning tea and lunch time. The school office also has a large pump bottle of sunscreen the children can use at any time if they don’t have their own. Please encourage and show your children how to apply sun screen.
If your child does not wear the optional school uniform we expect they wear t-shirts and tops that give protection to the back of the neck and shoulders. Children are welcome to wear sunglasses also during break times.
