Term 1 ends at 3pm on Wednesday 13th April
Teacher Only Day Thursday 14th April, Good Friday 15th April
Kia ora koutou. Hello everyone.
School Covid protection framework
Our school framework is now on the front of the school website with a dedicated button called Glamorgan Covid Protection Framework and also under the Lockdown-Health and Safety Plans buttons for your information.
Absence from school
If your child is absent from school please let the school know each morning they are absent. The best way to do this is to complete the absence form on the front of the school website or through Skool Loop (details of how to join are below). This goes to your child’s teacher and Jenny Watson, our resource manager. Alternatively you can call the school and leave a message on the absence line. If the roll is taken at school and we have not received any notification of why your child is absent then you will be sent a reminder text. Please do not reply to this text as this is an outgoing text service only.
All year 1,2,3 and 4 children and those who were interested in years 5 and 6 should have brought home a notice about playing netball this year. Please check your child’s bag if you have not seen it. If the notice is lost or you want your child to play and they have not brought a notice home, you can download the notice and registration form from the school website under Parent Information-Permission slips. Registration and fees are due by Friday 18th March for Years 5 and 6. Please register for years 1-4 but do not pay yet. Kidzplay will not hold any games until we are at the orange traffic light setting. We will organise year 1-4 teams and let you know when you need to pay.
Meet the Teacher
Meet the Teacher was canceled in its current face to face format. Instead, you will be sent a recorded message from your teacher tomorrow 18th February. Also with the message will be a form to give the teacher any extra information you think we need to know about your child. You can complete the form, scan and email back to the teacher, send the form to school with your child or just email the teacher directly with any information you want them to have.
Please make sure you child gets out of the car on the pavement side rather than into the road and that they cross on the crossing rather than on the brow of the hill. Larger vehicles don’t always see small children here and it is a dangerous place to cross. As police education officers were re-deployed last year we could not train road patrol monitors for the start of this year. However, this can now go ahead. It is important you do not park on the broken yellow lines close to the crossing as the road patrol can’t see past the cars to put out the signs safely (and the parking warden will give you a fine!). Thank you.
School Donations 2022
We greatly appreciate all donations made to the school. The school donation for the 2022 school year is as follows:
|Per year||Per term|
|2 or more children||$360||$90|
Payment can be made any time now at the office by EFTPOS, Visa, internet banking or automatic payments can be arranged with your bank. Our bank account details are ASB 12-3080-0059486-00. Please ensure you complete the reference section with your child’s name and specify “school donation”. You are able to claim a tax refund on school donations paid by requesting and completing an IR526 form from the Inland Revenue.
Glamorgan is a rubbish free zone!
All plastic, paper and food rubbish must be taken home each day. Try a litterless lunch – put food into small airtight containers for your children, without any wrapping so they can eat the food and bring the container home. As a part of environmental learning we encourage children to be litter free so you may find they come home and ask you if they can take food out of the wrappers or have fresh fruit or vegies instead of processed food in a container. If you could support your child in this we would be grateful.
We still have unreturned library books form 2021. If you have one at home please send it back to school with your child as soon as you can.
Police Vetting for sports team coaches and managers
Since the Vulnerable Children’s Act came out in 2015 we continually update our procedures and policies around keeping children and young people safe. It is recommended that all sports coaches and managers are police vetted as they have a position of authority over children and are often alone with them. If you are, or will be volunteering to be, a sports coach or manager and you have not already completed a police vet through Glamorgan School in the last 3 years, can you please pop into the office with two forms of identification, one of which must be photo ID (e.g. a drivers licence and passport would be fine). The school will cover the cost of the police vet and the office staff will complete the paperwork required. A police vet lasts for 3 years.
Reporting to parents
Children and parents will receive two written reports during the year and there are opportunities to meet with the teacher during the year as well. We are hoping these can go ahead face to face but if not we will let you know the arrangements instead.
A summary of the reporting cycle is below:
Term 1 Meet The Teacher messages sent home to parents on 18th February and Parent/Teacher/Child discussions (22nd and 24th March and 4th April between 3:15 and 5:30pm. We use an online tool to book appointments – details will be in the school newsletter the week before bookings open with the code to access our school’s times)
Term 2 Written report against progress made in relation to the New Zealand Curriculum. Parent/Teacher/Child discussions (29th and 30th June and 6th July between 3:15 and 5:30pm. (Once again booking details will be in the school newsletter the week before bookings open with the code to access our school’s times)
Term 3 Sharing the Learning: Y1-6 3-6pm (Thursday 22nd September)
Term 4 End of year written report against all curriculum areas. Parent/ Teacher/Child discussions for those families who request one (Date to be advised)
Scootering and Cycling to School
If your child is in Year 4, 5 or 6 they are allowed to cycle or scooter to school independently and leave their cycle or scooter securely fastened during the day. To do this they MUST have parental permission. Permission letters are available from Mrs Watson’s window. Please be aware that all safety procedures for the child and scooter or bike are parents’ responsibility and the school takes no responsibility for bikes or scooters left on the school site.
If your child is in Year 1, 2 or 3 they are not allowed to cycle or scooter to school independently and leave their bike or scooter at school. Of course they can cycle or scooter with a parent and the parent can take the scooter or bike home again.
No electronic devices are to be sent to school, including e-readers and smart watches. If a student brings a cell phone or smart watch to school, it MUST be left at the office during the school day. This is to ensure the item is kept safe and that children aren’t accessing the internet while at school without teacher supervision.
