Matariki Public Holiday Friday 24th June, Teacher Only Day Monday 27th June
Kia ora koutou. Hello everyone.
A reminder that school is closed on Friday 3rd June and Monday 6th June for a teacher only day and Queens Birthday public holiday.
Basic Fact-A-Thon Fundraiser
This year’s a-thon is a Basic Fact-a-thon and last Monday your child brought home their fact sheet to learn and a sponsor sheet. The testing day will be Wednesday 8 June so just after Queens Birthday weekend and children will have until Thursday 23rd June to gather their sponsorship funds following the testing day. We do not encourage children to go ‘door knocking’ and prefer that you monitor the soliciting of sponsors. Donations are welcomed should you not approve of gaining sponsorship. We appreciate your assistance in this regard. Please complete the sponsor sheet and send this to school on the test day.
Thank you for supporting the Basic Fact-A-Thon, raising money for the school and increasing your child/ren’s knowledge at the same time!
Pink Shirt Day
Thank you for supporting Pink Shirt Day last week. we managed to raise $438 which will go to the Mental Health Foundation. Thank you also to our year 6 student council members who helped organise the day and spread the anti bullying message throughout the week. As you can see they had fun despite the wind and rain!
Mornings in the Drop Off Zone
Please do not park on the yellow lines, always park on the left and say a quick goodbye and then move slowly down and out of the drop off zone. Move as far down as you can so other cars can get in. This is a no parking area between 8:15am and 9am. If you need to walk your child into school please park elsewhere and walk into school. Cars are being parked and left there at the moment which is impeding other users as they cannot let their children out safely on the school side of the drop off zone. This means people are pulling over onto the yellow lines – we had a close call one morning this week with a child crossing the drop off zone to the school and a car pulling out of a space. Please use the drop off zone as it is meant to be used, it is not safe to use both sides and do not park there in the mornings.
We are looking for parent volunteers to be marshalls and help move the traffic along in the mornings. If you can volunteer one morning per week between 8:30am and 9am please let the office know. Let’s work together to keep our tamariki safe.
See the attached brochure for safe use of our drop off zone – at least we have this safe place for cars to use which would be much appreciated by other schools so let’s use it well.
Ministry of Education survey
Please see the message and survey link from the Ministry of Education below:
We are preparing for the changes to schools’ planning and reporting, as legislated in the Education and Training Act 2020, that will come into effect on 1 January 2023. Instead of a charter, schools and kura must publish a three-year Strategic Plan, an Annual Implementation Plan, and an Annual Report. Throughout May 2022 we are undertaking initial engagement with boards, principals and communities to gather their feedback. If you would like to complete the survey below and give your feedback please feel free to do so:

From this event we will select our school cross country team from the 8,9 and 10+ year groups to compete at the interschools cross country races on Wednesday 29 June (save day 1 July) at Long Bay Regional Park.
The children will be sitting in age lines on their chairs in the middle of the field supervised by teachers. Children who need to leave the field are directed down a chute where they will be given a pass to leave the area. On their return they will need to give back the pass so that we can account for where the children are.
It is recommended that children bring old clothes to school that are suitable to run in (a change of clothes is advisable) and also warm clothes and a rain coat to wait in.
If the weather is not good and the cross country is postponed to 10 June, a message will be left on the information line, extension 2. Please note there will not be anyone available to take phone calls until the office opens at 8am. If both days are cancelled due to bad weather then we will run the races as and when we can fit them into the school day.
