Term 3 ends at 3pm on Friday 30th September

Kia ora koutou.  Hello everyone.

At the end of the last school holidays the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health strongly recommended that all schools require mask wearing in all indoor settings for students in Years 4 and above for the first 4 weeks of term 3.  Wearing masks has helped reduce new cases of  infections alongside other measures including vaccination, good ventilation, staying home when sick, and hand washing and other hygiene measures, to protect our students and staff.  Cases of covid reported to the school are significantly lower than earlier this year, however, absence is still sitting at around 15% per week as other winter illnesses have taken a hold. Our staff are also not very well at the moment, not so much with covid but colds, flu, tummy bugs etc which I am sure you have also seen in your children. We are managing our relief staffing at the moment – just. For this reason we request that the mask wearing continues for the next two weeks so we get through August and hopefully more children and staff recover fully.

Of course, mask wearing will not be required in situations where it is not practicable, such as while eating and drinking, playing certain musical instruments, indoor sport/Physical Education or where it will have a significant impact on teaching and learning (for example, students with particular learning needs). We know that that some of our students and staff are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider, or we have agreed that mask wearing is not practicable for them, we will support them to not wear a mask.

Children in years 1, 2 and 3 are welcome to wear a mask if they wish to.

Hopefully we can minimise the risk of infection for everyone and continue to keep the school open as we have done so far. You have been an amazing community all the way through this pandemic, thank you for your all your support in protecting our school community.
