Kia ora Glamorgan whānau,

You may have recently heard in the media about the changes to the New Zealand English and Mathematics curriculum, which are being introduced in phases. These updates are designed to provide clearer learning objectives and a more structured approach to teaching these core subjects. The pace of these changes has been fast, and our teachers are working incredibly hard to ensure they are well-prepared to support our tamariki.

For our students, this means a more focused approach to learning in English and Maths, with an emphasis on building strong foundational skills. For parents, it may mean some differences in how learning is structured, assessed and reported. Our goal is to ensure these changes positively impact our students, and we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.

As the Minister of Education releases more details, we will continue to keep you informed. In the meantime, please know that our teachers are dedicated to providing your children the best possible learning experience. Thank you for your ongoing support.

On another note, we are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful sunshine this time next week as we come together for the Great Glamorgan Get-Together! Mark your calendars and be sure to join us for this special event—an opportunity for us to connect, have fun, and enjoy each other’s company as part of the Glamorgan School whānau. FOTS is excited to share our fundraising priorities for 2025, which focus on supporting key initiatives that directly benefit our students and school community.

Literacy Resources & Professional Development 
This year, FOTS will be supporting the school with their Investment in essential literacy resources and professional development for teaching staff that will strengthen the structured literacy approach. These investments will provide teachers with the tools and training to enhance students' learning experiences and improve literacy outcomes across all year levels. 

Year 1 Picnic Tables & Seating
We are excited to raise funds for new picnic tables and seating in Area One. This upgrade will create a more inviting and functional area where our youngest students can gather, eat, and enjoy break times in a comfortable setting. The school is excited to partner with Westlake Boys students for this initiative. 

 

Shade Project 
Supporting the Board of Trustees' long-term vision, we are continuing to contribute towards improving shade solutions around the school. Creating a comfortable and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors remains a priority, particularly during the warmer months. This ongoing project involves careful research and planning to ensure the best solutions for our school community. We look forward to seeing further progress in the future.

With the support of our school community, these initiatives will create lasting benefits for students and staff. We look forward to working together to make them a reality in 2025

Friday 14th March is Pi Day (3.14), celebrating the mathematical constant pi, making it the perfect excuse to purchase a pie for lunch.

This is a wonderful event and a great fundraiser for the school. The race starts at Takapuna Grammar School field, goes along Lake Road, Takapuna Beach, Hurstmere Road, Milford Beach, and finishes at Milford Reserve. The course is approximately 5.9km and you are welcome to walk or run (some even take their baby buggies along!) Dressing up is encouraged but not essential.

Our children are growing up in rapidly changing times, and the risk, frequency, and severity of online harm are increasing. We need to tackle this as a community.

As such, our local cluster of schools has organised Filmmaker, Author, and Speaker Rob Cope, Producer of the documentary "Our Kids Online," to come and give what promises to be a humorous and eye-opening evening talk to our parent community.

The talk will be held at Northcross Intermediate on Wednesday, 26 March, from 7 pm to 9 pm. 

Please note this talk is for adults only and is not suitable for children or teens to attend.

We highly recommend you (or another adult in your family) attend this event as this topic is too important for us not to pay attention.

 

 

A reminder to everyone that children need to be a Year 4, 5 or 6 student with consent form parents, if they wish to ride a scooter or bike to school.

Parents, please complete the following LINK if you would like to give your child consent. If children do not have this consent form submitted, they should not be riding to school. 

Children in Year 1, 2 or 3, can not ride scooters or bikes to school (unless they are with a parent who will take the scooter home upon arrival at school).

Our school is excited to invite our Māori and Pasifika parents and caregivers to be part of our E Tū Tamariki group for all Year 4 to  6 students. 

This group of students is eager to connect with you, to learn from your experiences, and to celebrate the richness of your culture. We would love for you to share your knowledge, stories, traditions, language, or skills with our tamariki, helping them to deepen their understanding of their heritage and identity. Whether it’s through kōrero (discussion), waiata (song), art, dance, food, or history, your involvement would be greatly valued.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that toys stay at home. While we know how much children love their Beyblades, Squishmallows, Woolworths Cubbies, and other special items, bringing them to school can lead to distractions, loss, or disputes.

At Glamorgan School, we provide plenty of exciting opportunities for play, creativity, and social interactions throughout the school day. Encouraging children to engage with their peers through sports, games, and imaginative play helps build friendships and teamwork.

Morning Drop-Off:
Between 8:15 am and 9:15 am, families cannot park in the lane closest to the school. This lane is for through traffic only.
Please ensure last-minute tasks like applying sunscreen, closing backpacks, and sharing reminders are done before entering the drop zone. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Afternoon Pick-Up:
The drop zone is closed from 2:30 pm to 3:10 pm.

Please ensure all vehicles are parked in designated spots—not on curbs or walkways. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and running smoothly.
