Kia ora Parent(s)/Caregiver(s),
Welcome back to another exciting term at Glamorgan! I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating break with your friends and whānau. As we embark on Term 2, I wanted to take this opportunity to discuss the opportunity for our students to set goals.
Setting goals is a fundamental aspect of personal growth and development. Encouraging our kids to set goals empowers them to envision their future and gives them a sense of direction and purpose. I encourage you to talk with your child about their aspirations and guide them in setting realistic and achievable goals. For our youngest learners, the goal may be as simple as printing their uppercase letters. It may be taking responsibility for reading a chapter an evening for our older students. Whatever the goal, students learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and self-discipline by setting goals. Together, we can help them stay focused and motivated throughout the term.
I am excited to share that we have appointed our new Deputy Principal, Miss. Nicole King. Miss. King will be starting with us at the beginning of Term 3. An introduction from Ms. King can be found in the welcome section of this newsletter.
Next Friday, May 10, we will have our annual Lockdown practice. A further letter about this process will be shared with all families, but we ask for your support in chatting with your children prior to the practice. Like fire drills, this practice can help us feel more confident with the procedures should we ever need them. We tend to think about lockdowns for worst-case scenarios, such as the tragic events that took place in Christchurch in 2019. However, this quick practice helps our learners understand that a lockdown may often be actioned for simple scenarios like a swarm of bees, a dangerous dog, or a concerning event nearby. Whatever the scenario, this practice aims to have everyone ready to respond should we need to. Thank you in advance for your support.
On my most recent check-in for our Move-a-Thon, I can see we’ve raised $5,151.00! Thank you to everyone who has set up a donation page for their child. We have two more weeks until the event - let’s keep the donations coming in!
I am excited about the upcoming term and its opportunities for our students. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna-Marie McAleer
