This week I have been chatting with students about their learning; what helps them learn and what they do to help themselves learn. Did you know that even five year olds can make amazing statements about their learning? One particular student told me he was learning his letters and the sounds they make but he was also learning to make connections and that making connections was very important for learning!
As part of all our learning journeys, it is valuable to know what we are learning and why we are learning it and how we know when we have mastered it. The role of feedback in learning is vital. It provides the next steps for learners to continue improving, wherever they are on their learning journey.
“Feedback functions formatively only if the information fed back to the learner is used by the learner in improving performance.”― Dylan Wiliam, Embedded Formative Assessment
With reports coming home yesterday and parent discussions next week, the timing is perfect to chat with your children about their learning. We look forward to seeing you and your children for discussions on Tuesday 25th June and Wednesday 3rd July.
