Kia ora Glamorgan Whānau,

This is our last newsletter of the year, and as we wrap up 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible accomplishments of our students this year. Their dedication, creativity, and resilience have made us all proud. Our community continues to amaze me with its warmth, support, and unity—it has been an honor to serve as your Principal for the first time. Thank you!

Our school whakatauki, "Mā te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātou" (In unity we find strength), perfectly encapsulates who we are. Together, we have achieved so much, and I look forward to building on this strong foundation in 2025.

To those teachers, students, and especially our Year 6 leavers departing Glamorgan, we bid you farewell. Wherever your next adventure takes you, know that Glamorgan will always be cheering for you and will always be your home.

As the holidays approach, I encourage you all to take the time to do the things you love, spend time with family, and enjoy a well-deserved rest. 

Thank you once again for welcoming me so warmly into this special community. I can’t wait to see what 2025 holds for us all!

In 2025, we are moving to a reporting and communication system called Hero. We are excited to share this real-time reporting and communication process with you to enhance your child’s learning journey further.

Our aim has been to implement a robust system that allows teachers, parents, and students to access learning in a secure, easy, and effective online environment.

Hero allows teachers to share learning anytime, anywhere; this information can be viewed on any device. We are excited about the potential the software offers. The report area is designed to build year-on-year so that you will have access to written posts, assessments, images, videos, and helpful resources in one place over time. Your child’s School Report will also be available to you via Hero (starting in 2025). 

The Community Feed page is where all school communication will be shared, including our school newsletter, important announcements, notices from your child’s teacher(s), up-coming events, etc.

Parents will receive ONE form of notification when a community or student learning post is published.

If you log into the Hero mobile app, you will receive an in-app notification. If you log into Hero via a web browser, you will receive an email notification.

If you have logged in on a phone and a tablet, you will get in-app notifications to both devices. If you log out of one device (e.g. your phone) you will continue to receive in-app notifications on the other device (e.g. your tablet). If you log out of both mobile devices you will receive an email notification.

If a parent has previously logged into the Hero mobile app but is currently logged out on all of their devices, they will receive an email notification.

If you would like to have your default set for an email notification at all times, click on the three dots on your profile card, then click notifications, and click on the email (instead of default). 

Parents can now begin their Hero journey with us. Please download the Hero by LINC-ED app from the app store or open your browser, enter go.linc-ed.com, and select ‘new user.’ 

To log in, you will need to enter the email address you used when enrolling your child at Glamorgan School.

Noah won a gold medal  in the Jiu Jitsu National Championship last weekend.

Noah began his Jiu Jitsu journey at the age of 5 and has put remarkable effort into his training at Oliver MMA Browns Bay

Noah has competed in four competitions in the last two years, earning three gold medals and one bronze.

Please join us in congratulating Noah on this well-deserved achievement. Keep up the great work, Noah! 

On Tuesday, the Year 6 First Team versed the Glamorgan teachers in a staff vs students netball game. It was great fun. We thought we would have an easy win, but as soon as that whistle blew, we realised we were going to have to up our game. We both had an advantage; the teachers were tall and could intercept quite easily, but we had the advantage of slipping under their arms to get the ball. After a little bit of cheating from the staff, it resulted in a teacher win. The score was 9 -7. Great work, staff. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you, to Mrs Miller, for umpiring, you had a very hard job controlling the game, to Ms Anna Marie McAleer and Ms Nicole King for helping organise the event, Mrs D for photographing the event, and lastly, thank you to the crowd for your enthusiastic support.

Whether you bought ice blocks or pizzas, attended discos, movie nights, and bingo nights, or supported our raffles, your contributions have helped us create opportunities to support our students and school. Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant community for our tamariki. Have a fantastic summer and a joyful holiday season—see you in the new year!

The Touch season at Glamorgan  has been an incredible success, with 7 teams representing a range of age groups from Year 1 to Year 6. We are so proud of all the tamariki who participated, showing dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the season. A massive thank you to our amazing coaches who gave up their time and energy to support and guide these young athletes. Your hard work and commitment have made a lasting impact, and we couldn't be more grateful for your support in helping our tamariki grow both on and off the field. Well done to everyone involved!

Glamorgan Touch Coordinator

The Year 5/6 Boys Glamorgan Taniwhas had an amazing season this year, going into their finals unbeaten. They topped it off with a win against Murrays Bay
 5-2 to take first place in their grade! Watching the team develop over the season was the real highlight, with all of them playing a pivotal role in the team. A huge thanks to Tracey Paver for coaching!

The Red Dragons made up of boys year 1-2 who were  mostly first time players finished the season strong coming in 3rd place in their grade. 

These boys consistently showed up and gave their best and enjoyed their time on the field, some even refusing to sub off.

The Glamorgan Green Dragons (year 1&2)  touch rugby team has had a great summer touch season, showcasing determination, skill, and teamwork. From early challenges to remarkable victories, the team has truly come a long way, with each player growing stronger both individually and as a unit.

A special shout-out goes to Mr. C, for generously giving his time and expertise to coach the Glamorgan Green Dragons. His leadership and coaching have been nothing short of fantastic. His passion, knowledge, and dedication have helped bring out the best in every player, making this season one to remember.

We are still looking for coaches to make teams of 2025 Year 3 and 4 students. If you have not heard back and put an application in, it is because we have nobody to coach your child.  As we have so many students on the waiting list, applications are now closed unless you would like to coach a team. This is a notice for any Year 5 or 6 students who would like to play basketball in 2025. The basketball competition starts around the end of February 2025. It is played on Friday afternoons at the East Coast Bays Leisure Centre in Browns Bay. The ECB competition is run on a two semester basis, with Semester 1 running across Terms 1 and 2, and the second semester covering Terms 3 and 4. Each semester normally involves about 15 rounds of games.
