It's wonderful to see the bright sunshine on its way! That warmth always brings a sense of joy and renewal with it.

Speaking of shining brightly, a massive congratulations to our amazing Glamorgan group who performed at the Bruce Mason Centre on Wednesday evening! The entire night was a showcase of talent from around the area, and I could not have been more proud of our students' fantastic ABBA tribute. It takes immense courage to get up on a stage in front of a big audience and perform, and our students did so with such confidence and skill. A huge well done to every single one of them!

A big thank you to Mrs. Couch and Mrs. Halkyard for their incredible dedication and support in preparing our students for this wonderful event.

Our Board elections are now underway. You should have received information via email regarding the nine candidates running for election, along with voting procedures. Please take the time to read the candidate statements and cast your vote. This is an important part of your child's education, and it's a great opportunity to make your voice heard.

The Board of Trustees plays a vital role in our school community. In simple terms, their job is to govern the school, ensuring it is well-managed and meets its legal obligations. This includes setting the school's strategic direction, overseeing the school's finances, and supporting the Principal and staff. Board members are elected for a three-year term.

For those of you with busy sports schedules this weekend, I hope you still get to enjoy some of that beautiful sunshine!

It's time to cast your vote for who you want to represent you on our School Board.

To decide who will be on our School Board, we are running a voting process. For most, this will be an online voting process.

You’ll receive an email sent to the address we have on file for you. It will look like this:

Election Day voting closes at 4 pm on Wednesday, 10th September 2025

At this time of year, we are beginning to plan ahead for 2026. It is essential that we prepare for the number of students intending to enrol. If you have a preschool child and have not completed an online enrolment FORM, please use the FORM linked here or go to our website for further information. 

If you know of other families with preschool children intending to come to Glamorgan School, please encourage them to enrol now. We can take enrolments well in advance of children turning 5.  Many thanks to those of you who have already done this!

This year, we're launching our very first Glamorgan School Yearbook, and we want our super-talented students to be at the heart of it!

We're kicking off a fantastic Yearbook Cover Competition, inviting all our young artists to design the front cover of this special keepsake. For those interested in participating, the task is to create a vibrant and exciting design for our 2025 Glamorgan School Yearbook cover. All designs need to be completed on A4 paper and then given to Miss King.

Once all the wonderful submissions are in, the designs will go through a special voting process. Both students and teachers will have the exciting opportunity to cast their votes, and the design with the most votes will be crowned the winner and proudly featured on the yearbook cover!

If your child loves to draw, paint, or design, please encourage them to unleash their imagination and submit a fantastic entry. 

We can't wait to see the incredible designs our students come up with!

We're already looking ahead to our exciting Waterwise program for 2026, a fantastic opportunity for our Year 6 students to develop essential water safety skills. This invaluable program relies entirely on the incredible support of our parent community, specifically those who volunteer their time to become qualified Waterwise instructors.

The future of our Waterwise program genuinely depends on having enough dedicated and trained instructors. If you have a passion for water safety and are keen to contribute to this vital skill development for our students, we would absolutely love to hear from you! You don't need to have a child in Year 6 to volunteer – all interested parents are welcome!

The New Zealand Waterwise Instructor Course covers the basics of sailing and comprises two classroom theory nights and three to four practical sailing sessions. The course concludes with both a practical and an open-book written test. Those who have completed it in the past have found the course most enjoyable!

If kayaking is more to your liking, new guidelines are currently being developed for the kayaking part of the program. While you will still need to complete the main Instructor Course, you'll then be able to choose to specialize in supervising the kayaking activities.

Becoming an instructor is a truly rewarding experience, and your involvement will make a huge difference to our students' safety and confidence in the water.

If you are a current qualified instructor or are keen to become one, please complete this Google Form to express your interest. Please ensure the form is completed by September 15th.

📅 Grandparents / Special Persons Morning is coming up on Thursday 21st August—a special chance for tamariki to invite someone important to visit their class and celebrate their reading mahi.

Glamorgan School is a Mitey school. Mitey is a Sir John Kirwan Foundation initiative and is an evidence-based approach to teaching mental health education in schools. You can see Mitey in action here.

Mitey is provided free to all schools and relies on the generosity of our communities to support its great work. The East Coast Bays Football Club is holding a charity weekend on 22-23 August 2025 to raise awareness and funds for Mitey. Sir John Kirwan is speaking at the clubrooms on the Friday night which you are all welcome to attend. Light Up the Night Sky!  We're excited to invite your child to our Teacher Only Day event, where imagination and adventure take flight! This special event is packed with creative crafts, delicious treats, and energetic games—all inspired by the wonder of the night sky.
 

Children will explore the stars through hands-on, themed activities designed to spark creativity and keep them engaged all day long:

Create your own “Starry Night” masterpiece Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s iconic painting, children will use paint and texture to bring their own swirling night sky to life.

Build delicious fruit rocket sticks Using fresh fruit and a little imagination, kids will create healthy rocket-shaped snacks that are out of this world!

 Design vibrant chalk pastel shooting stars With bold colours and soft pastels, they’ll craft their own magical shooting star scenes to take home and shine bright.

 Get creative with starry crafts Kids will bring the night sky to life with hands-on projects that sparkle and shine

 Play active galaxy-themed games Kids will blast off into action with fun, energetic games that keep them moving and laughing all day long.

Just a light-hearted one this week!

When my kids were younger, they could spend hours playing with the boxes their presents came in. It was pure magic watching them get lost in their own little worlds—building, imagining, and laughing together.

That’s one of the things I miss most in today’s digital childhoods. Sure, games like Minecraft can be very creative, but they just don’t match the pure joy, face-to-face interaction, and belly laughs that come when a group of kids disappears into a world built entirely from their imagination.

Morning Drop-Off:
Between 8:15 am and 9:15 am, families cannot park in the lane closest to the school. This lane is for through traffic only.
Please ensure last-minute tasks like applying sunscreen, closing backpacks, and sharing reminders are done before entering the drop zone. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Afternoon Pick-Up:
The drop zone is closed from 2:30 pm to 3:10 pm.

Please ensure all vehicles are parked in designated spots—not on curbs or walkways. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and running smoothly.
